‘We are very family orientated, so for me I get to see my daughters most days’
A Hull mum and her two daughters who care for people in the community spend almost every day together, not just Mother’s Day. They say it makes them feel “very lucky” and stronger as people and professionals.
Maria Rogers, 65, and her daughters Christina Rogers, 41, and Suzanne Rogers, 40, all work at Springfield Healthcare in Hull, where they have been part of the same team since November 2021. Despite working in different roles, the trio support each other daily while helping coordinate and deliver care in to the community.
Maria works as a recruiter, while Christina, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the sector, is a care coordinator. Suzanne is the branch’s registered manager, overseeing the delivery of care services.
For the family, working together means they get to spend far more time together than most. Maria said being able to see her daughters almost every day is something she values deeply.
She said: “We are very family orientated, so for me I get to see my daughters most days, which is more than we would if we didn’t work together. We are very lucky that way.”
Christina added: “Working alongside my mum and sister has had a positive impact on me both personally and professionally. For the most part, we enjoy working together – It actually makes me a better person.”
As mum, Maria admitted it took some time to adjust when they first began working together in the same team. She said: “I struggled in the beginning all working together as I didn’t want to be accused of playing favourites. But we all get along very well now.”
Family has always been at the heart of the Rogers household. Christina is a mum of four and a grandmother. Her eldest daughter is 22 and has a three-year-old daughter, making Maria a proud great-grandmother. Christina also has a 17-year-old daughter, a 15-year-old son and her youngest son who is eight.
Suzanne is also a mum of two, with an 18-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter. Over the years, the family say they have supported each other through difficult moments as well as successes.
Suzanne added: “We are a close family and we have gone through some really heartbreaking events together. With everything we’ve been through, we help and support each other through it all.
“Mum is the absolute backbone of our family. Without her we wouldn’t be the people we are today. Without Mum and Christina’s support I wouldn’t have the career I have now.”
The trio say that same supportive approach is something they bring to their colleagues and the wider team at Springfield Healthcare.
Suzanne continued: “That’s why the Hull branch works. Blood related or not, we are a family and we look out for and support each other.”
