‘It means a lot for a small bakery like ours to receive this recognition’
A small artisan bakery in Pocklington is celebrating after winning four new awards at the 2026 British Pie Awards. Dan’s Pies, based in Pocklington and run by piemaker Dan Leaver, took home awards across several categories, including two new awards for pork pies.
The awards won in 2026 are Pork Pie, Silver Award; Pork & Blue Stilton Pie, Bronze Award; Steak Pie, Silver Award (retaining last year’s award for the second year running) and Steak & Wetherby Brew Co Ale Pie, Bronze Award (now a triple award-winning pie).
This marks the third year Dan’s Pies has entered the British Pie Awards – and the third consecutive year it has won awards, with the number increasing each year. In 2024, Dan’s Pies took two awards and has increased year on year, with three accolades in 2025 and now four in 2026. Other awards won over the years have included a Great Taste Award and Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Award.
Pies that are also award-winning include Cheese and Onion, Chicken and Chestnut Mushroom (double winner), and Chicken and Leek.
Dan said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to be recognised at the British Pie Awards again. A huge amount of work goes into making every pie, so it means a lot for a small bakery like ours to receive this recognition. Everything we make is handmade in our small bakery in Pocklington by just two of us – myself and my employee Mark, who also introduced pork pies to our menu last year.
“Seeing those pies now win awards makes it even more special as this is the first time entering pork pies. It’s also very satisfying to know that our other pies are still impressing judges year after year.”
Dan’s Pies sells its pies at markets across North and East Yorkshire throughout the week and at weekends, with its main weekly market taking place every Tuesday in Pocklington, where the bakery is based. The bakery also has a small shop, open Monday to Thursday, selling both fresh and frozen pies, giving customers plenty of opportunities to pick up their favourites. A full list of upcoming markets is shared at the beginning of each month on the business’s social media pages.
The business also supplies pubs, restaurants, and farm shops across Yorkshire, and customers can also order pies online for local delivery. For more information visit danspies.co.uk; find Danspies on Facebook and dans.pies on Instagram.
