One of the children suffered ‘life-changing injuries’

A child has suffered what are thought to be ‘life-changing injuries’ in a crash in East Yorkshire. The incident involved two vehicles and happened on New Ellerby Road, Burton Constable.

Humberside Police said: “It is believed at around 4.30pm on Friday, 6 March a white BMW was travelling northbound along New Ellerby Road near Burton Constable when it collided with a grey Toyota travelling in the opposite direction. Emergency services attended the scene and a 53-year-old woman, the driver of the Toyota alongside four children were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries.

“It is reported that one child sustained injuries that are thought to be life changing at this time. The 53-year-old woman and one of the children were treated for serious injuries that are not thought to be life changing, additionally two other children who were in the vehicle were treated for their injuries upon attendance to hospital.”

A 44-year-old man, the driver of the BMW, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst above the legal alcohol limit and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Officers are continuing to investigate the collision and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time of the collision, to please call our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 317 of 6 March.
