A chance for some regular game time.
Hull FC prop forward Matty Laidlaw has joined Championship outfit Hunslet on a four-week loan deal.
Laidlaw has featured twice for Hull’s reserve side so far this season – against London Broncos and Warrington Wolves – and has been named in 21-man squads for the first-team, but will now look for consistent game time in the second tier. He is available for Hunslet’s game against Widnes Vikings this Sunday afternoon.
The 22-year-old played ten games for John Cartwright’s side last season and was rewarded with a new three-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2028 season. He has made 23 appearances for the Black and Whites to date, having debuted at the 2022 Magic Weekend against Hull KR in Newcastle.
Laidlaw has also had loan spells at Newcastle Thunder, Keighley Cougars, and Doncaster during his career to date, with Hunslet also in action against Barrow Raiders and Oldham this month. The Leeds-based club are one win from four to start the Championship season, defeating Rochdale Hornets and losing to Dewsbury Rams, Salford RLFC, and Sheffield Eagles. They were knocked out the Challenge Cup by Huddersfield Giants last month.
A statement from Hull read: “Hull FC can confirm that Matty Laidlaw has joined Hunslet RLFC on a four-week loan deal. The 22-year-old prop forward, who has made over 20 senior appearances for the Black & Whites, heads out to the West Yorkshire Championship side with immediate effect.
“He will be available for selection for their fixture against Widnes Vikings on Sunday. Everyone at the club wishes Matty the best of luck for his four-week spell on loan.”
