‘We’re already seeing many of the usual headline events popping up alongside some fresh ideas and new themes’

The countdown is on to the region’s annual festival of business with a packed programme on both sides of the estuary poised to be unveiled. Humber Business Week is set to take place from June 1 to 5 and organisers are bracing themselves for the start of the rush to secure places at the most popular sessions.

Pat Coyle, chair of Humber Business Week, urged the business community to explore the schedule to make the most of some innovative new events and initiatives. The north bank programme launch will take place at the University of Hull Business School from 5pm until 7pm on Wednesday April 22.

Grimsby Minster will host the south bank event from 5pm until 7pm on Tuesday April 29. Events must be registered by close of business on Thursday April 2 to ensure they appear in the online listings ahead of the launch events.

Pat said: “The ‘Get Ready’ events earlier this year gave people some valuable guidance on how to organise and register their events, and we already have some interesting additions to the schedule as a result of those. The programme launches will reveal the details of this year’s Biz Week programme. It’s the time when people can start to identify the events they want to attend and get booked in – avoiding clashes and making sure they don’t miss out.”

“We’re already seeing many of the usual headline events popping up on the HBW website, alongside some fresh ideas and new themes that were introduced last year. There’s plenty more in the pipeline too – we know some organisers like to see what others are planning before finalising something that really stands out.

“That’s exactly what the programme launches are all about: giving event hosts the chance to announce their plans, spread the word and start getting people signed up. For everyone else, it’s the perfect opportunity to start planning your Biz Week, enjoy some high‑level networking and raise a glass with a welcome drink courtesy of the organisers of The Business Day.”

Humber Business Week will open with a full day of activities at the MKM Stadium on June 1, with the Bondholder breakfast followed by an event bringing together Reality Solutions and Hull and East Yorkshire Mind. Andrew Jackson Solicitors are expecting a full house for their morning with James Sweeting, who will talk about the origin and growth of his multimillion-pound businesses Pipers Crisps, Lincoln & York and Sumo UK.

Proceedings at the stadium will conclude with the ever-popular Humber Business Week lunch. New events added to the Biz Week schedule on Tuesday June 2 include an economic breakfast briefing by Alpesh Paleja, Deputy Chief Economist at the CBI. Ideal Heating in Hull is also holding an “Inside the Factory” event, giving guests get the chance to tour the company’s site in National Avenue.

The annual Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce Expo at the Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel will also take place on the Tuesday. On Wednesday June 3 Hull Truck Theatre will take centre stage, starting with a breakfast event by For Entrepreneurs Only (FEO) featuring Jonathan Elvidge, best known as the Founder of The Gadget Shop before becoming a YouTuber at the age of 60.

Curiosity Hull will then deliver an event based around their video interviews conducted with a variety of major regional businesses to promote skills and careers. Law firm Wilkin Chapman Rollits will present its event in the afternoon around the hot topic of ”Recognising Harassment”.

Hull City Council will host a business breakfast in the Guildhall on Thursday June 4 and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, one of Britain’s greatest Paralympic athletes, will be the keynote speaker at The Business Day at Bridlington Spa on Friday June 5.
