The pair meet on the South Coast for the first time since the final day of last season

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has talked up Hull City’s firepower after being impressed with what he saw in Tuesday night’s 4-2 win over Derby County.

The Tigers head to Fratton Park for Saturday’s early kick-off, aiming to make it five successive away victories. City scored with their only three efforts on target against the Rams, with the other coming from a Callum Elder own goal.

The Tigers are the third top scorers in the Championship, just one behind second-placed Ipswich Town (56) with 55 goals in their 33 games.

“They’re a very good side; they’ve got a huge amount of attacking firepower in particular. Last night was probably a really good example of where Hull have been this year,” Mousinho said.

“A 4-2 win at home, (City) sort of blew Derby away in terms of that attacking prowess and ability to really affect things at the top end of the pitch.

“They’ve got some very good players defensively as well, but they’ve done very, very well this year, I think fourth in the league (before Millwall’s win), a brand new manager who’s come in, probably with (what has been) a very, very difficult job over the past few seasons, as you’ve seen with the changes that Hull have made. He’s really steadied the ship, and I think they’re a very good side.”

Pompey sit six points ahead of the drop zone having been beaten at Wrexham on Tuesday night, though prior to that, they’d won 3-1 at both Millwall and Charlton Athletic. In their last home outing, it took a late Sheffield United goal to lose 1-0.

“I am looking forward to being back at Fratton Park, but usually we sort of get back at Fratton and it’s some respite from some poor away form, but we’ve taken six points from those three away games, which I think pretty much everybody connected to the football club would have taken, and I’m sat here disappointed that we didn’t take nine or seven,” he contined.

“We’ve got to get a bit of perspective on that, but we’re massively looking forward to getting back at the weekend. I think it’ll be a brilliant day, and as long as we show up, I think we’ll have a right go.”
