The Tigers claimed back-to-back wins after seeing off Derby County in midweek
Sergej Jakirovic admitted he was a relieved man after seeing Matt Crooks snatch a late winner at Portsmouth to seal a 1-0 win on the South Coast.
City produced a below-par performance at Fratton Park and were second best for long periods against a Pompey side who struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Crooks, sidelined with a hamstring injury for the past month, stepped off the bench in the second half to thump in after Oli McBurnie had forced an error between Adrian Segecic and goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid.
The visitors defended resolutely thereafter without ever really looking in too much danger, to move to within three points of the top two ahead of the later kick-offs.

“Defensively, we were very organised, and from set-pieces and long throws, we defended these very well.”
