The City chief is keen to get one of his key players signed up to fresh terms
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic wants the club to tie Regan Slater down to a new contract and reward the 26-year-old for his fine season.
The midfielder is out of contract in the summer, and though the club have a 12-month option, no agreement has yet been struck to extend his stay at the MKM Stadium ,which began when he joined on loan from Sheffield United in 2020. Slater said recently that talks had not yet begun.
Slater shone again on Friday night as City were beaten 4-0 by Premier League Chelsea, to maintain what has been a really good season for the ex-Blade.

After starting the season as fourth or fifth choice in Jakirovic’s squad, Slater’s impressive performances now mean he’s the Croatian’s first-choice performer in the Tigers’ engine room.
And having seen fellow double centurion Lewie Coyle sign up to fresh terms last week, Jakirovic wants to follow suit with Slater in the near future.
“Jared (Dublin, sporting director) hasn’t mentioned anything to me (about progress in talks),” the City head coach told Hull Live. “From the last conversation we had, I was very clear and direct that we should extend the contract with Regan.
“I think he deserved that. He’s very professional, he’s playing very good this season, and I think this is normal that we should offer him a new contract.”
