Eden Camp and Pickering Town CIC are giving one lucky couple the chance to win a 1940s-style wedding
This Valentine’s Day, romance is going vintage with one lucky couple being given the chance to tie the knot in the era of swing, spirit, and wartime style. Eden Camp Modern History Museum and Pickering Town CIC are offering a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to win a fully-themed 1940s wedding or vow renewal.
The ceremony is set to take place on October 10, 2026 – perfectly timed to coincide with the popular Back to the 1940s weekend.
The winning couple will begin their journey at the historic St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Pickering. The venue is renowned not only for its community ties but for its rare medieval wall paintings. Following the service, the newlyweds will be whisked away in a vintage vehicle, travelling through the streets of Pickering toward the grounds of Eden Camp.
The festivities will culminate in the museum’s iconic Heritage Hall. Against a backdrop of authentic wartime memorabilia and atmosphere, the couple will share their first dance, surrounded by the sights and sounds of a decade defined by resilience and romance.
The package will also include free bridal hair and make-up, a buffet for up to 40 people and more.
Luke Hudman, marketing manager at Eden Camp, said: “Back to the 1940s weekend is one of the highlights of our year, and this competition takes it to a whole new level. Partnering with Pickering Town CIC allows us to celebrate not just history, but love, community and storytelling in a way that feels truly special and memorable.”
Carrie Brackstone, operations manager at Pickering Town CIC, added: “Pickering has had such a strong connection to its heritage, and weddings at the church have been part of the town’s story for generations.
“It’s an incredibly special church as it houses a very rare set of medieval wall paintings that were originally painted around 1470.
“This partnership with Eden Camp gives one couple the chance to become part of that living history in the most romantic way possible.”
