The English transfer window may have closed but City could yet be doing business

Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic admits he’s unsure if winger David Akintola will remain at the club by the time the Tigers host Bristol City on Saturday.

Akintola has interest from the Turkish Super Lig and has already turned down two potential moves in the past few days, but could yet return to Turkey.

The Super Lig window doesn’t close until Friday, so the Nigerian winger still has time to assess his options, one of which includes remaining at the MKM Stadium and fighting for his place in the remaining 16 games of an enthralling Championship campaign, which may yet end in promotion.

Jakirovic spoke again with the 30-year-old ahead of Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Watford at the MKM Stadium, though he wasn’t involved in the squad for the second consecutive Championship game.

Akintola, who joined in the summer, finds himself down the pecking order following the recent arrivals of Yu Hirakawa and Lewis Koumas. Joel Ndala found himself in a similar situation and has since moved to Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite being told he can leave if he wants more regular football, something he can’t be guaranteed with the Tigers chasing promotion to the Premier League.

“I don’t have a problem with David,” Jakirovic told Hull Live. “I spoke with him again today, and if something will happen now in the next few days, maybe.

“He always has something (offers) from Turkey because he played there. We will see until the end of this week if he will stay here. If he does, he will fight for his place and the competition for the minutes.”
