‘These achievements are a direct result of the hard work, passion and dedication of every member of staff, alongside the determination and enthusiasm of our amazing children’

A local school is celebrating after being singled out as one of the best for it support of disadvantaged pupils. Springhead Primary School, in Anlaby, has received a praise from Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, who sent a letter to the school’s headteacher Naomi Prutton for demonstrating strong foundations for its pupils.

Children’s performance at state primary schools are measured by Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) which are taken in Year 6, and children at Springhead Primary School toasted its strongest SATs results yet in the last academic year, with 97% meeting the expected standard and 52% achieving the greater depth standard.

The letter from Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told the school’s head: “Congratulations to you and your team on the excellent outcomes the disadvantaged pupils at Springhead Primary School achieved at the end of the 2024/25 academic year. Your school’s performance places it among the very best nationally, and this is a significant achievement.

“This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.

“Your school’s achievements demonstrate what is possible, and I hope you will continue to share your experience and best practice with others. Even the strongest schools can go further. We encourage you to lead the way as a system leader – sharing effective practice, championing networks, supporting collaboration, and sharing effective practice, championing networks, supporting collaboration, and helping raise standards across the sector.”

Headteacher Mrs Prutton said she and her staff were all delighted to receive such high praise. She added: “To be placed in the very top nationally for outcomes is something we are really proud of. Last year’s results were our strongest ever, with 97% of children meeting the expected standard (compared to 74% nationally) and an outstanding 52% achieving the greater depth standard (compared to 28% nationally).

“These achievements are a direct result of the hard work, passion and dedication of every member of staff, alongside the determination and enthusiasm of our amazing children. We were particularly pleased to see ambition referenced in the Secretary of State’s message, as ‘Igniting Ambition’ is at the heart of our school motto and underpins everything we do.

“While we are proud of our high performance, these results mean far more to us than rankings alone. They show that our children leave Springhead with strong foundations, no gaps in their learning, and the confidence and readiness to succeed at the next stage of their education.

“What makes us proudest of all is hearing in the years ahead about our former pupils achieving awards and success at secondary school and beyond. That lasting impact is the true measure of what we do.”
