Hull KR new recruit Tom Amone is now a doubt to start the season
Hull KR have been dealt a blow in their preparations for the new season with their star signing Tom Amone sidelined after breaking his hand in training.
Brought in to replace Jared Waerea-Hargreaves as the club’s main addition for the 2026 campaign, the 29-year-old former Castleford Tigers and Leigh Leopards player has been ruled out of training after damaging his hand in training.
As reported by Love Rugby League, the incident is believed to have happened at the club’s warm weather camp in Tenerife and as such Amone is already underway with the recovery process.
Having been unlikely to play in Rovers’ Challenge Cup tie with Lock Lane, a game moved to Craven Park on February 6, Amone’s expected return date of mid-February may only see him miss one game at most. The prop is not thought to have been ruled out of the Super League opener at York City Knights at this stage, and as such it is hoped he will be in contention to feature against Brisbane Broncos a week later in the World Club Challenge.
Regardless of his return, being sidelined at this stage of pre-season will be a blow to Amon and Rovers as they work on new combinations and try to get the squad up to speed earlier than usual given he significance the first weeks of the campaign bring with the World Club Challenge and a game against Leeds Rhinos in Las Vegas a week later.
Rovers are not short of options in the front row, but will hope their new recruit has recovered in time to face the NRL champions.
