27-year-old Patrick was ‘a deeply-loved son, grandson and proud new daddy’

A “proud new daddy” who tragically died in a crash on an East Yorkshire road at the weekend has been remembered as “deeply loved” by his heartbroken family. Patrick Shaughnessy, 27, was killed in the incident on the A614 in the Holme-on-Spalding-Moor area on Sunday (January 18).

A blue Land Rover was travelling northbound from Howden at around 9.55pm when it was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van, travelling in the opposite direction. The two occupants of the Land Rover – Patrick and a 55-year-old man – were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van, a 31-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to “injuries that are believed to be life changing”.

Paying tribute to Patrick, his family said: “Patrick was a deeply loved son, grandson and proud new daddy taken from us far too soon.

“His kindness, laughter and fierce love for his family and friends will be carried in our hearts forever. Rest In Peace. Miss you, sithee xxx”

His family are being supported by specially-trained officers. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information including CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to contact Humberside Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 436 of 18 January 2026.
