The dense fog warning affects Hull, East Yorkshire and surrounding areas

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog, affecting Yorkshire and the Humber. The forecaster anticipates that the hazy conditions will disrupt travel.

The alert is in effect until 7am on Friday, January 16. Fog patches are predicted to spread across the county, reducing visibility to less than 100m in some areas, reports Yorkshire Live..

According to the weather experts, the fog will thin and lift into low cloud early on Friday morning. The foggy conditions could lead to delays or cancellations of flights and affect public transport journey times.

The Met Office advises travellers to check timetables to ensure their flights and train journeys are still scheduled to depart on time.

Fog necessitates air traffic controllers to increase the gap between landing planes, which reduces the number of aircraft an airport can handle. Bus services are also likely to be affected.

The warning applies to East Riding of Yorkshire, Kingston upon Hull, North Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and York in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Motorists are also advised to exercise extra caution. The Met Office stated: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, leaving extra journey time, or amending plans if necessary.
