The Tigresses have the chance to make it into round five

Hull City Ladies will look to create more history on Sunday when they host Birmingham City Ladies in the fourth round of the FA Cup, despite going into the contest as firm underdogs.

The Tigresses have already seen off Brighouse Town, Stourbridge and Mancunian Unity to set up the meeting against the Blues at North Ferriby (2pm), going further than they ever have before, and they’re urging fans to come out in force and support their bid for glory.

While tier three club City sit seventh in the Northern Premier Division, Birmingham are in tier 2 and are sitting pretty in second in the Championship, the league below the WSL.

“As a club, we are extremely excited about not only making history by reaching the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time, but given the opportunity to really test ourselves against a Birmingham City team that is flying high in WSL2, sitting second in the league,” club chairperson Rachel Gay told Hull Live.

“The FA Cup is a prestigious competition, and to be in the last 32 is a real honour, but one I feel we thoroughly deserve. We have had to travel away to some extremely tough opponents in the other three rounds to get to this stage, so it’s nice to finally get a home draw.

“Hopefully, we can pack out the Versa Sportswear Stadium, home of North Ferriby United, and really make it difficult for Birmingham City.

“We really do need to get as much support down as we can to try and make some noise cheering on the Tigresses, we all know, in the FA Cup, anything can happen, we have seen it before in the male and female competition many times. It’s a one-off game, and the prize is a place in the last 16; it’s what dreams are made of. Please come and share this experience with us and be a part of something special for Hull City Ladies FC.”

The Blues have the advantage of being full-time players, unlike their opponents, but boss Chris Hames’ charges won’t need any motivation in a game where they’ll be firm underdogs.

“There is no doubt about it, Birmingham City, being full-time professionals, will be the firm favourites to win the game, but being the underdog is not a bad thing,” Rachel continued. “I know Chris Hames, his coaching staff and the players will be up for this one, and doing everything they can to cause an upset. As a footballer, you dream of playing in big games like this, so I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that we will be giving it everything we have got.”
