The Tigers skipper has four goals and 13 assists to his name in 208 appearances since joining almost six years ago
Acun Ilicali says he hopes Lewie Coyle will remain at the MKM Stadium for the rest of his career as talks over a new contract near a conclusion.
Coyle‘s existing deal at City runs out this summer, and though the club have the option of extending it by a further 12 months, there have been extensive discussions about a longer contract to keep him at his hometown club.
The 30-year-old, who joined the Tigers in 2020 from Fleetwood Town and has been a regular under a series of managers, clocked up his 200th appearance for City against Ipswich Town in late November and has been a regular this season under Sergej Jakirovic, playing 20 times.
Ilicali says he doesn’t want to see a situation where the former Leeds United youngster is playing for another club and therefore wants to get things settled sooner rather than later.
“When I bought the club, we were together and every minute I saw him giving everything on the pitch,” Ilicali told Hull Live. “This boy loves the city.
“He’s one of our own, and I don’t want to see him wearing another shirt. For me, our captain has to finish his career with us, and we are working on it; some more details are left.”
City have already seen John Egan exercise his contract extension, which ties him to the Tigers for another 18 months, and it’s expected Regan Slater’s fresh terms will be confirmed in the near future.
