Specsavers branch donates hi-vis vests to local nursery
A team of opticians donated 30 hi-vis vests to children at Goole ’s Jellytots Nursery to help them stay safe and seen during the darker months. The gesture coincided with Road Safety Week, an initiative designed to highlight the importance of road safety and the risks of winter driving and walking, especially as early morning and evening darkness makes visibility more challenging.
The team at Specsavers Goole, which is independently owned and run, wanted to ensure the children had access to gear that would keep them visible and safe on their way to and from the childcare centre – and for a charity walk that was held in early December. The children raised money for Hull’s Dove House Hospice through their Tinsel Tree Trot.
The event encourages classrooms to organise a Christmas sponsored walk during which the participants can wear festive accessories and spread cheer, while supporting patients, staff, and families across East Yorkshire. Alice Wrigglesworth, deputy manager at Jellytots Nursery, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the team at Specsavers Goole for their thoughtful donation.
“The safety of the children in our care is always a priority, and these vibrant hi-vis vests will ensure they are clearly visible whenever they are out and about in the community. Plus, they arrived in perfect time for the children’s charity walk to raise donations for Dove House Hospice.
“The vests will be shared across our nursery, making sure that every child experiences added safety and visibility. We truly appreciate the support from a local business, as it helps us to maintain our budgets and focus on putting it towards the children’s development.”

As well as helping the children stay visible on their way to and from nursery, they will also be useful during any seasonal extracurricular activities. Bilal Ayaz, retail director at Specsavers Goole, said: ‘As a locally owned healthcare provider, we’re committed to supporting causes that have a positive impact on our community.
“We are proud to donate these hi-vis vests to local children and raise awareness of road safety during the winter months. We hope that these vests will play a small but important role in keeping children safe and visible, serving the nursery well throughout these darker months, and providing parents and guardians with peace of mind during their walks to nursery and on any extracurricular visits.”
