The Tigers are in action under the MKM Stadium lights on Wednesday night
Wrexham winger James McClean expects Hull City to be licking their wounds after Friday night’s dismal 4-1 hammering at home to Middlesbrough when they meet at the MKM Stadium on Wednesday.
City missed the chance to move up to third in the Championship after their worst first 45 minutes for some time saw them four goals down to a rampant Boro side, before Joe Gelhardt at least won the second half with the Tigers’ first penalty of the season.
The Tigers have now lost their last two MKM Stadium games having gone six unbeaten before that and will be determined to get back to winning ways against a Wrexham side who conceded late to draw at Preston North End on Saturday.
That draw, their ninth in 19 league games, did extend their unbeaten run to nine matches, though, with McLean primed for a response from Sergej Jakirovic’s men in front of their own supporters.
“It’s a tough division and the table shows that everyone beats everybody,” McClean said. “For us to go nine unbeaten, we take a lot of positives from that and we look forward to the game on Wednesday, and hopefully make it 10 unbeaten and hopefully with a win this time.
“It’s going to be another tough game, they’re licking their wounds after Friday night’s result. They’re at home so they’ll be eager to bounce back and we’ve got to match the challenge.”
“If you look at our team and the quality we have here, we’re not overawed going to any ground. We look forward to the challenge and we believe we’re more than capable of beating anybody in this division as each game comes. This division, anyone can beat anyone, it’s ruthless.
“To go nine unbeaten is no easy feat, and it shows you the character and the quality we have in this team. But it’s a bit disappointing to drop two points given the position we were in, but we’ve got to take the positives as well and move on to Hull on Wednesday.”
