The store is expected to open in Autumn/Winter 2027
Key facts about M&S’s planned new Kingwood store
- M&S is opening a full-line store at Kingswood Retail Park, offering food, clothing, and homeware under one roof in Hull for the first time since 2019. The new store involves relocating the existing Simply Food store at Kingswood and expanding into part of the unit currently occupied by Matalan, which is being divided into two units with each brand taking one side.
- Hull’s original M&S store on Whitefriargate closed its doors in 2019. The closure left Hull without a full M&S store, meaning local shoppers had to travel for clothing and homeware items.
- The new store is planned to be more than six times the size of the existing Kingswood Food Hall, spanning over 60,000 sq ft across two floors. A new mezzanine level will increase the floor space available, allowing room for the various departments.
- The opening of the new store is not expected for some time despite Hull City Council having already approved the plans for expansion. The MP for Hull North and Cottingham, Dame Diana Johnson, recently wrote to M&S asking for an expected timeframe for when the store may open. The response the MP received explained that work is anticipated to begin on site in late 2026, with the store currently expected to open in Autumn/Winter 2027 .
- The opening of the new site will coincide with the closure of the existing food hall. The letter Dame Diana received stated that the staff at the current site will transfer over to the new store. Additional staff will also be recruited.
