The latest Hull City news from HullLive as the Tigers striker plays down prospects of a return to Elland Road

Joe Gelhardt insists he remains totally dedicated to Hull City‘s cause – but admits to a ‘negotiation clause’ in his current loan arrangement.

The 23-year-old scored his seventh of the season in the win over Portsmouth just before the international break, with each goal exacerbating the fear he could be recalled by Leeds United in the January transfer window.

Reports have suggested that is unlikely, both from the Tigers’ and Whites’ end of the arrangement but things can change quickly in football.

Asked about the situation and the existance of a break clause Gelhardt told BBC Humberside: “I haven’t heard anything, I am contracted to Hull at the minute so I am going to give Hull my hundred per cent.

“I try and do that every game and I will continue to do that. I am not entirely sure to be honest, I know there is a negotiation clause, I don’t know what for.

“I don’t really bother, [that’s what] football players have agents for, I just focus on football. I haven’t heard anything about it so I am a Hull City player.”

Gelhardt has bagged five in his last six games and has also added a couple of assists as the Tigers power on without Olly MacBurnie.

He remains under contract at Elland Road for another 18 months and should United fall back into the Championship, a future in West Yorkshire is not out of the question, given the way he’s flourished at City.

Next summer, City expect to be able to trade normally once again, and would naturally like to make Gelhardt’s move to the MKM Stadium permanent.

Team-mate Charlie Taylor also spoke to the BBC and expressed his hope his team-mate – and friend – will stay.

“It’s not just me, the whole team, the club, the staff, the fans, they love him and they understand how good of a player he is and how big a part of the team he is.

“He speaks for himself when he is on the pitch, he is such a big part of the club it would be frustrating or a sad moment if he did get recalled.”
