A routine inspection of Hessle Road flyover will take place later this month

The Hessle Road flyover in Hull is to be closed overnight to allow routine inspections to take place.

Hull City Council’s bridges team will be carrying out checks on the bridge, which dates back to the 1960s, to make sure it is still safe and reliable to use.

The flyover will be closed westbound from 00:30 to 05:00 GMT on Sunday 23 November and eastbound from 23:00 on Saturday 29 November until 06:00 on Sunday 30 November.

Signed diversion routes will be in place, the council said.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at the council, said: “Routine inspections like this are vital for maintaining the safety and reliability of our transport infrastructure.”

The council said the findings from the inspection would feed into the development of the structure’s future strengthening and repair scheme.
