Take a step back in time and enjoy the magic of a Victorian Christmas at Hull’s Museums Quarter this month. Residents and visitors alike are being invited to join in the fun on Saturday, November 29 and Sunday, November 30 from 11am to 4pm.
The event is hosted by Hull Museums and Hull City Council says that visitors will get to experience a Christmas celebration full of history, charm and cheer. Guests can wander through beautifully decorated galleries and meet the characters who shaped Christmas as we know it today.
Over the two days, there will be live performances and interactive fun. Visitors can help Mrs Butterworth tame the Naughty Christmas Tree in a playful hide-and-seek adventure as well as meet Chief Elves Sock and Tinker to discover the gifts Victorian children received.
You can keep a look out for the cheeky roaming Brussel Sprouts for laughs and surprises and there will be the opportunity to ride on a traditional fairground carousel.
Eclectic Music saxophonists will be filling the air with live music on the Saturday, and the Barton Community Brass Band will perform on the Sunday. The Hull Visual Choir will bring the songs to life with British Sign Language and artistic flair across the full weekend.
There’s something for all ages to enjoy. Little ones are invited to Eden from Stories Alive and help him bring a Victorian Pantomime to life. Adults can enjoy a dramatic performance by the Northern Academy of Performing Arts as they bring A Christmas Ghost Story to the Museums Quarter.
There will be festive food and drink on offer over the weekend and gift shops at the Hull and East Riding Museum and Streetlife Museum will also be open as usual. Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “Victorian Christmas is a staple in Hull’s festive calendar and always attracts huge crowds.
“This year’s offer sounds absolutely fantastic, with something for all ages. The Hull Museums team would love to see visitors dressed in their festive best – or even Victorian attire – ready to make memories that will last a lifetime!”
Hull City Council said that the event activities are free, apart from the carousel ride which will be £3 per person. For more what’s on news, click here.
