The people of Hull will come together to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice
A Remembrance service is set to take place this Sunday as Hull will remember the fallen.
A military parade will depart Queen Victoria Square at 10:25am on Sunday, November 9. It will move down Carr Lane and then turn north at the Ferensway junction to the Cenotaph.
A service will commence at 10:55am and includes wreath laying. A two minute silence will be held at 11am.
The Lord Mayor’s chaplain, the Reverend Louisa Haynes, will join clergy from Hull Minster to conduct the service, which will be followed by the Lord Mayor and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Cheryl Payne, taking the salute at the march past. The Lord Mayor said: “Remembrance Sunday is a poignant occasion in Hull, a city that knows more than most what horrors war can bring.
“We will remember those that paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms. Thousands attend the annual service in our city, and it is good to see so many people coming out to pay their respects. I’m also very pleased that representatives from HMS Iron Duke will be with us this year, after her recent return to the city.”
A smaller Armistice Day service will follow at the Cenotaph on Tuesday, November 11, organised by the Royal British Legion Hull branch, which the Lord Mayor will also attend. People are invited to gather from 10:45am, with the service beginning at 11am.
