It was the year that England famously won its one and only World Cup title.

Closer to home, there were other pressing matters in 1966, including local nominations for a forthcoming General Election, a collapsed crane to remove from a railway embankment and the opening of a new school swimming pool to celebrate. Some of our readers may recall these events quite clearly, and may have themselves been involved.
