Hull KR are chasing what would be an ‘unbelievable feeling.’
Willie Peters admits it would be an “unbelievable feeling” to guide Hull KR to one of the most extraordinary achievements in rugby league history – a feat that would elevate his team to legendary status and etch their names forever into the sport’s folklore.
Standing in their way are reigning champions Wigan Warriors – the dominant force of the modern era – in a Grand Final showdown that promises high drama, high stakes, and potentially, history.
Victory on Saturday night would see Hull KR complete a stunning treble: lifting the Challenge Cup, claiming the League Leaders’ Shield, and now standing just 80 minutes from Old Trafford glory. To make the achievement even more seismic, the winner will earn the right to take on NRL champions Brisbane Broncos in next season’s revived World Club Challenge.
For Hull KR – a club that ended a 40-year wait for major silverware at Wembley in June – the chance to finish the season with all three domestic trophies would be nothing short of monumental.
“It would mean a lot – to the city, the fans, our owner Neil Hudgell and our board who have invested so much,” head coach Peters said.
“The fans have been through so much, in terms of heartache, fighting and doing it tough.
“It’s tough to reach Grand Finals, and the players have achieved that again this year.”
Peters knows Saturday won’t be easy either. Wigan are battle-hardened, decorated, and chasing their own slice of history – a third successive Grand Final win and a fresh chapter in a dynasty already in full bloom under Matt Peet.
“Anything that you want doesn’t come easy, and it won’t come easy on Saturday night. But if we can, it would be an unbelievable feeling,” Peters continued.
“It comes down to moments, and that’s what we need to be ready for.
“Making sure players take their moments and who knows who will get that this year. Last year, it was obviously a collected effort from Wigan but Bevan French was the key difference. It’s the key moments that we need to take this year.”
