The striker has impressed in the early weeks of the campaign
Bolton Wanderers will almost certainly want to make Mason Burstow’s move from Hull City permanent next summer, if the striker continues his fine form, that’s according to ex-England man Lee Hendrie.
Burstow scored a terrific goal in the Trotters’ emphatic 4-1 win over rivals Wigan Athletic in front of more than 25,500 fans at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday, his fifth strike nine League One games so far.
The ex-Chelsea youngster, who joined City for around £2m from Stamford Bridge last summer, is top of the League One goalscoring charts along with five other players, and has really caught the eye under Steven Schumacher.
City expect Burstow back at the MKM Stadium next summer, and hope he’ll return full of confidence after a prolific campaign with the Whites, which could yet end in promotion.
Given his form in the early weeks of the season, Hendrie expects Wanderers to try and push for a permanent deal next summer, though that will depend on City’s plan.
“I’ve sort of seen him get his loan moves and it hasn’t really hit off for him,” Hendrie told FLW. “I think this is the only time, you look at really where he’s started the season well at Bolton, obviously on loan, scoring goals.
“I think he’s got four in his last nine. You do start to think, ‘Is this where he’s going to turn a corner?’ just dropping down, getting his confidence back, playing games.
“This might be a big fit for him. It seems to be at this moment with the start he’s had, and potential for what Bolton have in the future.
“You’d think that if this continues on, they’ll certainly want to make this a more permanent fixture. That’s if Hull allow it.”
