Works will include reconstructing and resurfacing the road, replacing kerbs and footpath crossings, and repainting the road markings
Hull City Council is set to begin a carriageway resurfacing scheme in Wivern Road, to improve the condition of the carriageway. The four-week scheme is vital to repair and resurface the concrete road – which is showing signs of deterioration – to ensure it provides a safe, even surface for all users, with improved grip and skid resistance, the authority said.
Works will include reconstructing and resurfacing the road, replacing kerbs and footpath crossings, and repainting the road markings. The work will start on Monday, November 2 and is planned to be completed by Friday, November 27, weather permitting.
To maintain safety, and reduce disruption on residents and businesses, the scheme will be delivered in two phases. These are:
- Phase one – Monday, November 2 to Tuesday, November 17, road closure from No. 8 to No. 12, north of Wivern Road. The diversion route will involve entering and exiting Wivern Road from the south at Amethyst Road.
- Phase two – Wednesday, November 18 to Friday, November 27, road closed from No.177 to the junction with Triton Road. The diversion route will involve entering and existing Wivern Road from the north.

The work will take place between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Residents and businesses will receive advance notice via letter drop, and information boards will be placed on site.
Pedestrian footpaths will remain open throughout the scheme and bin collections will continue as normal. Cllr Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Keeping our roads in good condition is important for residents, businesses and everyone who uses them.
“Wivern Road is showing signs of deterioration, and these works will address those issues, improve the road surface and help prevent more costly repairs being needed in the future. We recognise that roadworks can cause inconvenience.
“By carrying out the scheme in two phases, we aim to minimise disruption as much as possible. I would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience while these important improvements are carried out.”
The scheme will be carried out by PBS Construction Limited on behalf of the council. Please be aware that the dates for this scheme are weather dependent and subject to change.
