Liam Millar is made for Birmingham City, according to manager Chris Davies, after the Canadian scored twice in a thumping 3-0 win over QPR.

Millar, who is on loan in the West Midlands from Hull City, netted in the 27th and 49th minutes at St Andrew’s to move Blues fourth with a third straight win.

Since arriving at Birmingham just days after scoring the winner for the Tigers at Coventry City in late August – their last victory – Millar has scored four goals and clocked up three assists in his seven appearances.

Davies has made no secret about his admiration for the 27-year-old, revealing previously about his failed attempts to tempt him to Birmingham. Now he’s got his man, Davies is delighted with Millar’s output, having scored in each of his last three home appearances.

“He’s doing great,” Davies confessed. “I’ve said before, I’ve tried to get him every year that I’ve been here, and we finally convinced him. He’s been super. He’s got energy, he’s got intelligence, but he’s got quality. When you get a chance, if you can be clinical with it, you’re a really good winger.

“With players, it is hard to predict how they do whether on loan or if you sign them. Do they fit? Do they settle in? He looks like he’s made for this place. We love having him here; he seems to love being here, and that’s a good combination.”

Millar is due to spend the season on loan with the Championship promotion hopefuls, and is out of contract at the MKM Stadium next summer, though the Tigers do have a 12-month option to extend it by a further year. Hull Live understands City do not have a recall clause in January, meaning he will remain at St Andrew’s for the duration of the campaign.

For his part, the Canadian says he’s loving life, and playing with the freedom that he believes he’s enjoyed since moving back into the Championship.

“I just feel like I’ve been given the freedom to express myself and to be myself,” he explained. “You know, I feel like I’ve not really had that anywhere else in my career where I can really be myself and be me.

“So, you know, I’m really happy with how I’ve started life, and I just want to keep going and keep expressing myself, and helping the team as much as I possibly can, and hopefully do what we all know we can do this season.”
