John Egan says Joe Gelhardt can do things on the football pitch that he can only dream of, and says the Hull City forward will get better as the season wears on.
Gelhardt marked his first Premier League start since returning to City late in the transfer window with a goal in the 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday.
The former Leeds United striker replaced Mo Belloumi in the starting line-up, before the Algerian came off the bench in the second half to level it up, and move the Tigers onto a hugely respectable nine points from their opening six games ahead of Saturday’s trip to Fulham.
It was a first goal in the Premier League for Gelhardt since scoring in a 2-1 win over Norwich City for Leeds back in March 2022, and Egan feels the confidence will be flowing now he’s off the mark, and fully fit after a summer of injury struggles.
“Mo’s on fire, I’m delighted for him to score another goal, and I’m delighted for Joffy as well,” the Irishman told Hull Live. “It’s huge for the confidence, Joffy hasn’t done a full pre-season, so he’s been building up his fitness, and we know he’ll only get sharper and sharper as the year goes on.
“For him to get the start was brilliant, get minutes in the legs, and to cap it off with a top goal, none of us is surprised by the quality Joffy has. He’s a really quality player.

“He can do things with the ball that I can only dream of doing. It was a great finish, and hopefully he can keep getting sharper and sharper and score a few more goals.”
At one point in the second period, Egan found himself in the Everton box trying to find a yard of space and get himself on the scoresheet, as jokingly explained: “Yes, trying to get up there like the Derby game last year, but, instead of going for finesse, I think I tried to put it out for a throw.”
