The venture would create around 30 new jobs for local people and could see the former NatWest Bank being transformed into a warm, eclectic ‘home from home’
A new all-day café bar and restaurant could be coming to Beverley if plans are given the go-ahead. A planning application has been submitted by the Loungers group to open the Sabado Lounge on Saturday market in early 2027.
The venture would create around 30 new jobs for local people. It could see the former NatWest Bank being transformed into a warm, eclectic ‘home from home’ for diners.
The business promises its all‑day menu will cater for every taste, from hearty comfort food to healthier choices and indulgent treats. Families will be a major focus for the proposed venue with games, books, colouring materials, high chairs and baby‑changing facilities available.
Loungers currently operates around 300 sites across the UK. Hull has the Ponto Lounge, on Victoria Square, near the revamped Hull Maritime Museum. And the firm operates the Vallado Lounge and Cosy Club in nearby York.
Planning documents for the proposed Beverley venue make clear it will be dog-friendly and accessible. “The Lounges are all uniquely designed, with an emphasis on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for families, as well as four-legged friends.
“The aim of every Lounge is to tie in with local customers, so that they can make of the Lounge what they will, whether a customer wants to come in for a coffee after dropping children to school, a working lunch, or a tipple after work, Lounges can provide an environment for all these purposes.” Alcoholic drinks will be on sale at the proposed Sabado Lounge, but the documents say that sales are a smaller proportion than that of food.
The plans make clear that the 393 square metre site within the Grade II listed building in the centre of Beverley will not involve any material change to the external appearance of the building. Internally, the ground floor layout would comprise a bar area, customer space, store, staff room and the kitchen would be on the first floor. Minor internal works would facilitate the installation of extractor fans.

‘Bringing a beautiful building back to life’
Gemma Irwin, Community Manager at the Loungers group, explained the Sabado Lounge would have ‘community at its heart’ and could offer a welcoming space for regular meet‑ups, business catch‑ups, book clubs, knitting groups, parent‑and‑baby sessions and creative workshops. “We can’t wait to start bringing this beautiful building back to life and welcoming everyone through the doors of Sabado Lounge early next year,” she said.
“Becoming a genuine part of the community is incredibly important to us, and we’re excited to meet our neighbours, support local groups and get involved in everything happening around us.” Beverley’s famous Saturday Market area has been a focal point of trade and community life in Beverley for hundreds of years.
A regular market is held in the area that attracts hundreds of traders, offering a vibrant mix of stalls selling food from around the world, fruit and vegetables, freshly baked goods, arts and crafts, and clothing. The full planning application for the Sabado Lounge has been submitted to East Riding Council and is open for comment until September 25th.
