Celebrity guests, horror merch and more are being lined up at the eighth spine-tingler of an event

Hull’s eighth annual festival of all things creepy has a very special guest topping its bill this year. Hull Horror Fest returns to Costello Stadium in October and is flying in Leonora Scelfo, of Scream fame, to meet festivalgoers.

Also appearing are Barbie Wilde of Hellbound: Hellraiser II; Nicholas Vince, of Hellraiser; Cinzia Monreale, of The Beyond; Luisa Guerreiro, of Toxic Avenger and Amber Doig-Thorne, of Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey. Over 50 horror-themed stalls will be on display, while replica photo opportunities, Q&As and lots more will offer lots of horribly-good entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Taking place on Saturday, October 24, it is the perfect spot to chill – and chill your spine – in the run-up to Halloween. Comic con fan John Jackson founded the family-friendly event that draws locals and visitors from further afield.

“It’s back for year eight – we had a few years off after Covid – and it just gets bigger every year,” said John. “Each year Hull Horror Fest is growing more popular – we had over 1,000 people last year.

“Everyone loves it. Children dress up as various horror characters like Chucky or Pennywise the clown.

“With Stranger Things and all the new TV things that are out there, we are getting new audiences and new products.” John said: “This year I think the big draw is going to be Leonora who we are flying in straight from Houston, Texas.

“It’s her first time at a UK convention and people who are into Scream will be able to get to meet her. I know there are people coming up from London because it’s a chance to see her.

“With our guest artists doing Q&As it’s a great opportunity for people to ask questions as well as to get autographs.” John said: “For me, there is a special buzz around this event and I really like looking around all the stalls and browsing and meeting the traders.”

John said: “We also have local historian Mike Covell who will be revealing the dark side of Hull and its histories and mysteries. Hull Horror Fest will be the perfect kick-start to the Halloween season.”

Full families dress for the occasion, going to town on their favourite horror get-ups. The event takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, October 24, with tickets available in advance (£10) or on the door (£12), under-fives free, and there is free parking at the stadium with overflow parking at Sirius Academy West.
