Jakirovic has told certain squad members where they stand

Hull City are pushing to secure a loan move for Kieran Dowell in the closing days of the summer transfer window.
Dowell is one of the players on the peripheries of Sergej Jakirovic’s first-team picture right now and with the Tigers needing to submit a 25-man squad to the Premier League shortly after the transfer window closes this week, he is in danger of being left out.
Indeed, the attacking midfielder hasn’t featured in either of City’s two league games so far this season so far, with his only appearance coming in the Carabao Cup at Stoke City, where he scored the Tigers’ only goal of the evening.
In order to give him the best chance of picking up the minutes he needs this season, though, City are exploring loan options for the ex-Rangers man.
The Championship is the likely destination for Dowell if they can find a suitor, with Jakirovic explaining the situation following the victory over Coventry City on Saturday.
“I had conversation with Kieran, a very honest conversation,” the City boss said. “This is the problem about the 25.
“He will try to find something and we also try to help him find a loan that he can play this season.”
The situation is similar for the likes of Abdus Omur and David Akintola, with the pair facing up to the stark reality of left out of the City squad unless they can secure late moves.
Omur has spent the last season and a half out on loan in Türkiye and a similar move can be expected.
Akintola was de-registered for the second half of last season by the Tigers and a similar fate awaits for the Nigerian unless a move can be found
“There is no space,” Jakirovic added. “For me the worst scenario for the players is stay out of the squad without registration because then what? You are dead player.”
Asked if any more players could leave, the head coach added “Anything is possible. If somebody offer something we will see.”
