Hull FC interim head coach Andy Last has made no secret that the club wants to sign Max Wood on a longer-term deal – and that reality may come to fruition next season.
The Black and Whites are big admirers of the 22-year-old prop, who has had two loan stints at the club this season before being recalled by parent club Warrington Wolves. A third and longer season-long loan stint could be a possibility for 2027 should the Wire continue to bolster next year’s pack with new forward signings.
If that reality were to come to fruition, the deal would have no recall option, as per Denive Balmforth’s stint at York Knights this season.
Hull have signed Daly Cherry-Evans, Bailey Hodgson, Alrix Da Costa, and Isaac Liu for the 2027 season, with Hull Live understanding centres and forwards are now the priority. A deal is expected to be completed for Aussie centre Jordan Swann, with Wood being very much of interest.
The young middle has played five games for Hull this year. He has struggled to nail down a regular place at Warrington, having signed for the club from Wigan Warriors. He is off contract at the end of the 2027 season with the Wire having the option of a further year.
“Max was doing a good job and was enjoying his time here,” Last, who aired his desire for a longer deal last month, said after the player’s recall last week. “He’s been getting some valuable Super League game time with us.
“He’s someone who is able to play good minutes, whether that be in the middle unit or on an edge. He contributed to us this year and I’m sure down the track, if we need someone on loan again, Max is someone that we would be able to call on.”
