The free event aims to raise money and awareness of fostering services in the city

It will be Team SpongeBob vs The Smurfs at the third annual hockey fundraising event to support fostering in Hull. The Hull Fostering Charity Hockey Game returns for the third year on Sunday, August 30. The event is free but those attending are encouraged to dig deep to raise money for Hull’s fostering services.
Last year’s event attracted nearly 2,000 people, this year’s game offers a whole afternoon and evening of sport, entertainment and family-friendly fundraising. The headline fixture will see The Smurfs take on Team SpongeBob, bringing together professional players, recreational players and former professional guests at Hull Ice Arena.
The event gets underway outside from 3.30pm, with entertainment before the arena doors open at 4.15pm. The puck drops at 5pm. There will be many ways to take part and donate, including a tombola raffle, cake stall, 50/50 ticket and jersey raffle. Hull-born singer Victoria Eastwood will perform the national anthem before the players take to the ice for the first period. At the end of the first period, Eastwood will return to perform three songs, accompanied by two figure skaters who will skate alongside her performance.
The entertainment continues at the end of the second period, when one of the players – whose regular home is the Deeside Dragons – will take to the ice to perform stand-up comedy, while still in his full hockey gear. With professional players, recreational players and ex-professional guests all taking part, the event is designed to support the work of Hull fostering. No booking is required and families with children of all ages are welcome.
