Hessle’s Home Farm will open its doors on Wednesday (August 12) as a JD Wetherspoon pub. Located at the site of the former Brewers Fayre, in Ferriby Road, which closed earlier this year, it follows a full refurbishment of the venue.
The pub takes its name from a nearby country estate farm, reflecting the area’s rural past, echoed today by Home Farm Cottages, also in the locality. Hessle grew through industries such as chalk-quarrying and shipbuilding before the Humber Bridge opened in 1981, transforming cross-estuary links. Today, the name symbolises both the town’s past and its developing future.
Food will be served at Home Farm throughout the day, from opening until 10.30pm every day. The new pub will specialise in real ales and traditional ciders, as well as craft and world beers, serving a wide range of different draught ales, as well as bottled beers, including those from local and regional brewers.
It will be open for family dining, with children, accompanied by an adult, welcome in the pub up until 9pm throughout the week. The pub is wheelchair accessible and has a specially-adapted toilet for people with disabilities. It also has a large beer garden to the rear. Historical photos and details of local history, as well as artwork and images of local scenes and characters of the area, are on display in the pub.
Pub manager Scott Houlton said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into Home Farm and we are confident that the pub will be a great addition to the local social scene. The team are ready to welcome everyone to this great local community pub.
“In the bar area we’ve got the Hessle theme with some history of Hessle as well as some photographs or Hull’s history also displayed around the premises. We have a new fresh bar, new toilets, new flooring, new everything. We have had a full refurbishment throughout from top to bottom and are excited to welcome everyone.”
