New Hull FC signing Bailey Hodgson may not have played his last game for current club Leigh Leopards, head coach Adrian Lam has confirmed.
Lam has stated there is a ‘small possibility’ that Hodgson, who has signed a two-year deal at hometown club Hull for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, could return to action this year following an infection on his elbow last month.
Hodgson last featured for Leigh against Warrington at the Magic Weekend on July 4, and unfortunately suffered a cut on his elbow during the game, which got infected and required two surgeries. The cut was near a metal plate that was inserted after a previous injury while at Newcastle Knights, with the player hospitalised for two weeks.
However, despite fears of a serious injury, one that Lam even described last week as ‘career threatening’, the 23-year-old will make a full recovery and could even pull on a Leopards jersey again before the end of the season.
Speaking in his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Lam said: “Bailey Hodgson is back into the system now, rehabbing, and has a small chance of coming back, which is great news.
“There is a small possibility (of Hodgson playing again this season). Everything has to line up for us, all the moons have to align, but he’s the ultimate professional and he’s back in doing his bit.
“It’s difficult with his situation to fast-track that, but the way he has come in is certainly credit to him, and by doing that, it opens up a very small window.”
