Very Beautiful South will play two shows on Saturday

A tribute to one of Hull’s finest exports, The Beautiful South, will take to the stage at the Beverley Parkway Theatre & Cinema complex with two sing-along shows this weekend. The nine-piece tribute band, Very Beautiful South, is considered one of the country’s best and will be performing both matinee and evening shows at the venue in Flemingate on Saturday (August 8) – with shows starting at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

“The idea of putting on matinee and evening shows came from listening to a radio interview with Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who suggested that she would go to a lot more gigs if she could enjoy a liquid lunch beforehand and still be home in time for evening dinner,” said VBS frontman Andy Whit. “This will be our second time putting on both afternoon and evening shows here in Beverley, and we’re looking forward to being back again after last years’ hugely successful performances.”

The band formed in 2022 and have established themselves as a popular tribute to The Beautiful South and to the songwriting partnership of Hull’s very own Paul Heaton and David Rotheray. Playing the well-known classics Perfect 10, Rotterdam, A Little Time and Don’t Marry Her, as well as a few of The Beautiful South’s lesser known album tracks, the band aim to recreate the original chart-topping sound, along with Heaton-esque vocals from Andy and the female vocals of Briana, Jacqui and Alison performed by the uber-versatile voice of Lisa Arbon.
