Hull City are preparing to offer one of their Wembley promotion heroes a new and improved contract as they prepare for life in the Premier League.
Regan Slater, who passed 200 games for City last season before going on to play a starring role in the club’s sensational promotion back in May, is set to be offered a long-term deal to keep him at the MKM Stadium.
It’s understood that the Premier League club are on the verge of offering Slater a three-year deal, with a 12-month option as a reward for his performances in recent seasons, something Sergej Jakirovic has championed for a number of months.
The Tigers had already activated the 12-month option in Slater’s existing deal, which meant he remained under contract until the end of the current campaign, but these fresh terms could keep him at City for another four years.

Slater arrived on an initial loan from his boyhood club, Sheffield United, early on in City’s League One promotion-winning campaign back in 2020.
He famously became Acun Ilicali’s first permanent signing after his takeover was completed in January 2022, with City paying the Blades just £50,000.
Along with skipper Lewie Coyle, Slater is the only surviving member of Grant McCann’s side that won promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt, and since making his move to the MKM Stadium permanent a little over four years ago, the Gleadless-born midfielder has become a firm favourite on the terraces.
United had been showing interest in Slater following Chris Wilder’s return to Bramall Lane last season, but the Tigers have moved to fend off interest in the midfielder and reward him with a new, long-term deal.
