Hull FC earned their tenth victory of the 2024 season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Salford Red Devils 38-6 to maintain their current top six position. Here is the latest notebook.

Sam Eseh’s Hull FC message

Never fall in love with a loan player. Never fall in love with a loan player. Never fall in love with a loan player. Oh, never mind. Sam Eseh is a firm favourite with the Hull FC fans now, and it’s not hard to see why, with his performances growing by the week. The prop forward is looking more aggressive and confident every game. He charges into the line with his carries, and he puts himself about in defence too with some big shots. He’s getting better and better in the black and white, and at only just turning 22 years old, his potential is massive.

Posting a video to Hull’s social channels after Sunday’s win, Eseh said: “Great support. Great win. See you all next week, Hull FC fans.” The front-rower is on a season-long loan deal from Wigan, where he is contracted until the end of 2026, but there’s no denying Hull would love to keep him.

Hull FC injury latest

There were no injury concerns for the Black and Whites after the Salford win. However, John Cartwright expects no returns for the Warrington game either, with the likes of Will Pryce (hamstring), John Asiata (hamstring), Jed Cartwright (hamstring), Jordan Lane (arm), and Liam Watts (knee) all out injured.

“I think so – just a few bumps and bruises, as you’d expect, but nothing major,” the head coach said when asked about injuries. “Hopefully, everyone will be available (for Warrington).”

Asked if anyone will be back in the mix, Cartwright added: “I don’t think so. It’s a short-ish turnaround. I’m pretty sure we’ve got what we’ve got.”

Video ref no show

Hull FC scored seven tries at Salford, but they also had three overturned by the video referee – two for Davy Litten and one for Harvey Barron. There was no screen at Salford Community Stadium, but the coaches too had no technology to watch replays with.

“I don’t know why they were disallowed; I couldn’t tell you,” Cartwright said post-match. “There are no screens, but we’ll watch the replays later.”

Tom Briscoe milestone

There was a big milestone for Tom Briscoe on Sunday, with the Hull FC back scoring his 173rd Super League try. It puts him joint ninth with another former Hull player, Leon Pryce. Furthermore, it was his 99th try for the club, with the winger just needing one more for a century with the Black and Whites.

Loan and dual reg appearances

Hull FC duo Will Gardiner and Logan Moy both featured for Doncaster in victory at Sheffield Eagles over the weekend. The Dons completed a South Yorkshire derby double over the Eagles, winning 26-12, with Gardiner starting at loose-forward and Moy coming off the bench.

Elsewhere, young Hull trio Will Kirby, Ryan Westerman, and Joe Ward featured for Hunslet in the Championship. However, it was a day to forget for the Leeds-based club, who were hammered 58-0 by Barrow Raiders.
