The Black and Whites recruit has suffered an infection.
Bailey Hodgson is set to join Hull FC from 2027.
Leigh Leopards will continue to be without Hull FC-bound Bailey Hodgson for an unspecified period, head coach Adrian Lam has confirmed.
The Black and Whites have signed the 23-year-old for the 2027 season and beyond, with the player missing last week’s game against Castleford Tigers due to illness.
Lam has now provided some detail behind that absence, stating that the player was hospitalised earlier this week after contracting an infection on his elbow.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Hull, Lam said: “Bailey missed the game at the last minute last week because he had an infection in his elbow.
“Since then he’s been admitted to hospital and has stayed overnight for a couple of nights. He has had an operation on that because of some danger around the infection site, so it’s not good news for us.
“He’s certainly not going to play this week and we don’t know how many weeks ahead he’s going to miss out on, so obviously it’s not ideal but at least it’s not an injury and not a long-term one. We’ve checked in on him and he’s doing okay as we speak.”
Pushed more on when Hodgson could be back, Lam continued: “It’s definitely week by week, it’s unfortunate the way it’s come about really. It’s one of those ones where it’s got a cut on it and it’s infected an area that’s previously had some screws in it.
“We’re checking in with Bailey and making sure that he’s doing okay.”
As for the Hull clash, Lam is expected to field a similar side to the one that defeated Castleford last Saturday, with Frankie Halton in contention to return, having missed the last game with a tight hamstring.
“Apart from Bailey, the team won’t change too much from last week,” Lam said. “We’ve still 12 or 13 players out now but the possible selection of Frankie Halton, he’s a 50-50, we’re going to give him right up until kick-off to be ready.”
On the injury front, Leigh remain without the likes of Joe Ofahengaue, Robbie Mulhern, Jacob Alick, Tesi Niu, AJ Towse, and Andrew Badrock.
