Former England goalkeeper Jack Butland has become the first player to sign for Hull City this summer, as the club gears up for life in the Premier League.
Butland arrives from Rangers and pens a two-year contract at the MKM Stadium with an option for a third, in a deal that saw Ivor Pandur make the move to Glasgow for what’s understood to be around £6m on Tuesday.
City will be Butland’s ninth club in England in a career that saw him start out life at Birmingham City, before making his EFL debut during a loan spell at Whaddon Road with Cheltenham Town. He’s also had spells at Manchester United, Barnsley and Derby County.

During his career, the Bristol-born goalkeeper has played 87 times in the Premier League, with the vast majority of those coming for Stoke City.
Butland became England’s youngest-ever goalkeeper when he made his debut in a 2-1 win over Italy at the age of 19 and 158 days, and he went on to play for Team GB in the 2012 Olympic Games.
The 33-year-old stopper played 157 times for Rangers, with 55 of those coming in league, cup and Europe last season, but has opted to return to England three years on from his move north of the border from Crystal Palace.
City’s first arrival of the summer will be part of the squad that returns to pre-season training on Monday week, with Sergej Jakirovic’s men reporting back to Cottingham.
Pandur’s departure will spark a major flurry of transfer work over the next few weeks, with City eyeing up as many as 10 or 11 new signings in addition to Butland’s arrival.
Last season’s number one played 45 times in the Championship, and kept three clean sheets in the play-offs to help the Tigers win promotion back to the top-flight with their 1-0 win at Wembley against Middlesbrough. In doing so, the 26-year-old became just the fourth goalkeeper in history to not concede a goal in all three play-off games.
The Croatian, who is currently away on World Cup duty, joined the Tigers from Fortuna Sittard in a £1.5m deal back in January 2024 and went on to play 92 times in all competitions, keeping 20 clean sheets, and saw his move to Glasgow confirmed on Tuesday night.
