Hull KR boss Willie Peters has paid tribute to unsung forward Sam Luckley, describing him as a player who “doesn’t let us down” after a series of impressive individual performances in recent weeks.
Luckley recently celebrated his 100th appearance for Hull KR and has been a dependable figure in the club’s pack in recent seasons. The 30-year-old was among the try-scorers in last week’s dramatic defeat to Wakefield Trinity and is expected to feature again when the Robins host York Knights in Round 14, named in the extended squad.
The prop has been utilised as a regular interchange under head coach Peters, who has been impressed by the Scotland international in recent weeks.
“Sam’s last two weeks have been very good,” Peters said.
“He played bigger minutes at Wembley, and I like what he did against Wakefield. Sam doesn’t let us down, and he’s been one of the better forwards across the last couple of weeks.
“What I like about him is, he knows his place in the team and executes his role whether he’s coming on in the first or second half, he gets on with it and wants to nail his role.
“He’s doing extras in and around getting his fitness levels to where he needs to be. I’ve been happy with Sam over the last few weeks, that’s for sure.”
Rovers, meanwhile, bid to return to winning ways against Mark Applegarth’s York back at Sewell Group Craven Park. Hull KR have won their last 32 home meetings against the Knights.
York’s last away victory against Hull KR was 15-6 on 26 December, 1958.
