Popular food chain Pepe’s is set to open in the unit

Plans to transform a former Hull bank into a takeaway have been approved by Hull City Council. The premises in Newland Avenue used to be home to a Lloyds Bank branch.
Situated on the corner of Newland Avenue and Goddard Avenue, it has sat vacant following the closure of the bank last year. Lloyds had been on the site for many years, with the site having previously carried the ‘Lloyds TSB’ branding.
Following the closure of the bank, an application for various alterations to the site was submitted to the council. Plans show how the site is to become a hot food takeaway/restaurant.
As planning documents explain, a change of use application for the site was not necessary. Plans state: “The change of use of the premises from a Bank to a Restaurant (both Use Class E) does not require planning permission.”
Proposed signage, featured in mock ups of the site, shows the unit is to be occupied by Pepe’s, a popular peri peri chicken chain. The chain has a number of sites across the country.
Pepe’s currently have a site on Paragon Street in Hull city centre. The restaurant is next door to the Portland Hotel, the site of the recently approved 109-bed HMO.

The now-approved application, which was submitted to the council in January, details plans for how the site will be amended to facilitate the new restaurant. External changes will take place on both the Newland Avenue and Goddard Avenue fronts. However, the marble finish on the building will be retained. Aluminium windows will be installed where the three ATMs were located on the Newland Avenue side.
