BBC Look North presenter Peter Levy was left red-faced after he mixed up two popular BBC programmes while presenting a live news bulletin.
A BBC news presenter experienced an embarrassing gaffe live on air.
Pete Levy completely mixed up the name of a major programme during a recent broadcast of the BBC Look North Bulletin.
During the segment, he started talking about a popular East Yorkshire location that featured on Springwatch. However, he announced, “One of East Yorkshire’s top beauty spots featured on BBC Two’s Crimewatch programme.”
He quickly realised his mistake and corrected himself, saying: “Springwatch programme, I beg your pardon!” Peter clearly found it difficult to maintain his composure as he continued, adding: “Not Crimewatch, Springwatch. Oh, that’s a classic, isn’t it?”
The footage was shared on social media, and viewers were quick to fill the comments section with their responses, reports the Mirror.
One viewer wrote: “@peter_levy utter legend! xx.” Another posted: “Oh dear @peter_levy” alongside two crying-with-laughter emojis.
This isn’t the first time Peter, who has presented Look North on weekdays since 2002, has experienced an on-air blunder.
In 2023, he dissolved into uncontrollable laughter while reading the day’s headlines for Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.
The specific story involved the rising costs to repair a Lincoln walkway, known as the ‘Glory Hole’. However, Peter proved completely incapable of keeping a straight face as he delivered the report on the peculiarly named footpath.
The presenter said: “Now, it’s estimated that the bill to repair Lincoln’s Glory Hole, will be..”
Peter paused momentarily, his usually composed professional manner appearing to falter as he realised the unintended innuendo in his words.
A broad smile crept across his face as he attempted to press on, saying, “will be anything from sixty..”
Once again, Peter dissolved into laughter as he disclosed the estimated repair costs for the replacement.
Still chuckling, the BBC cut to footage of the ‘Glory Hole’ as Peter informed viewers of how long it would remain closed to the public, all while struggling to contain his amusement.
BBC Look North airs three main weekday bulletins: a lunchtime update at 1:35 PM, the main evening programme at 6:30 PM, and a late-night bulletin around 10:30 PM.
