Willie Peters insists a tough match against Wakefield Trinity is exactly what Hull KR need to get over their Wembley disappointment.
The Robins travel to the DIY Kitchens Stadium just a week after their Challenge Cup heartbreak, having been hammered 40-10 by Wigan Warriors in the capital.
Rovers have had time to reflect and now refocus their attention on Super League, with a straight run through to October’s Grand Final.
Daryl Powell’s Wakefield sit just behind the Robins in fifth, separated only by points difference, while Trinity have crossed for 80 points across their last two fixtures – including a dominant 58-10 victory over Catalans Dragons at home in Round 11.
For Peters, that tough test is exactly what his side needs.
“I think it is the perfect game to respond after the Challenge Cup because we’re playing against a very good team,” he said.
“It’s a great opportunity for us. We had a lot of players say they were disappointed with their game at Wembley and didn’t reach anywhere near the levels that they can and they should, so I’m looking forward to that this week against a good opposition.
“It’s a perfect game to be able to perform well against a good team.”
Hull KR have received a major boost ahead of the showdown, with Mikey Lewis shaking off the knock he picked up at Wembley and declaring himself fit to play.
New signing Tevita Pangai Jr could also make his long-awaited debut after being included in the extended squad.
Wakefield have their own welcome returnee, with England international Tom Johnstone back in contention after injury. The winger scored seven tries in six appearances before Achilles inflammation brought his season to a halt.
“I want us to be ourselves, and the team that everyone knows we are and what we’re all about,” Peters added.
“That’s being great team-mates, and leaving everything out on the field. We’ve built our game on playing hard for each other, a physical style and that’s what we need to get back to.
“Wakefield ask a lot of questions, and scores a lot of tries on their edge.
“They’re good at running shape, so you’ve got to be on. It’s a great game for us to be able to right some wrongs.”
