City’s Croatian manager was overcome with emotion

Sergej Jakirovic says the emotion within the Hull City camp is very high with nobody really taking in what they have just achieved after winning promotion to the Premier League.

The City boss is still trying to come to terms with the magnitude of his achievement after following in the footsteps of Phil Brown and Steve Bruce by guiding the Tigers to promotion to the Premier League, by way of the play-off final.

Like his predecessors, it was another 1-0 win as Oliver McBurnie’s late goal settled a nervy affair at Wembley Stadium, to send over 30,000 City supporters into dream land.

“This is unbelievable.,” was the manager’s opening statement.

The City boss arrived in the summer unheralded and with many fans having not heard of him, despite his Champions League experience. In nine months he’s certainly left a last impression on Tigers fans and the wider game with his infectious personality, but ultimately, his brand of winning football.

If they didn’t know him before, they do now as the supporters left Wembley singing his name among others.

“The emotions are very high, there was a lot of players crying,” added Jakirovic. “This is unbelievable. I don’t think we are aware yet of what we have achieved today or this season, it has been an unbelievable journey.
