Rovers’ win over Wigan might have come at a price
Willie Peters admits that both Karl Lawton and Dean Hadley are concerns for Hull KR ahead of next week’s Challenge Cup final.
The Robins beat a young Wigan Warriors side 62-4 at Craven Park on Thursday night to move second in the Super League table for 24 hours at the very least.
However, it seems the win could have come at a price, with Hadley and Lawton both picking up issues. Lawton left the field after suffering a slight rib issue in the opening few minutes of the contest.
Hadley meanwhile appeared to pick up a hamstring injury in the closing stages of the game, walking off the field gingerly.
The Robins were also without Tyrone May and Joe Burgess on the night, but Peters confirmed both would be fit enough to feature at Wembley Stadium.
“Tyrone had a little bit of a shoulder, he’s OK but it’s a minor niggle so we wanted to give him a chance to play,” Peters said after the game.
“They’re all minor so the ones that didn’t play they’ll be fine for next week.
“Lawton has a rib issue so we’ll have to see how that goes. Ideally we wanted to take some guys off and move things around a little bit but with him and Jai had a minor groin and Dean, we’ll have to wait and see with Dean.
“Dean felt his hamstring so we have to see to what extent that is.
On the game itself, in which KR scored 11 tries with a hat-trick coming from Mikey Lewis, Peters added:
“We wanted two points and got it. We’re happy with that and move on.
“First half was really clinical. Second half credit to Wigan. Their young boys came out and turned things around. They were physical and they played well.
“It was scrappy but that can happen as we moved some people around.
“But we got what we wanted out of it.”
