Amone seems to be getting towards top form in a red and white shirt

Tom Amone feels at home at Hull KR and his recent form is certainly indicative of that.

The former Leigh Leopards prop joined Rovers in the off-season after a difficult second spell in the NRL ultimately led him to join up with Castleford Tigers on a short-term deal last year.

Injuries prevented Amone from building the traction he would have liked in pre-season and the forward missed the start of the campaign as a result.

However, the 29-year-old has really found his groove in a red and white shirt now and as he has built up quite the partnership with fellow prop Sauaso Sue, with the pair helping to get KR off to a strong start week in, week out.

And, with Willie Peters’ side now on an eight-game winning streak in all competitions, Amone is now in red hot form.

“It’s been a slow start for me just getting used to the systems and everything,” Amone said after Saturday’s 20-16 win over Leigh Leopards. “There’s good people in the team and a good coach that’s helped me learn my role and keep turning up for the boys.”

The forward might be modest but his partnership with Sue is starting to become one of the most fearsome in Super League, with the pair working to put KR on the front foot by suffocating teams early.

“He’s a beast,” Amone said on Sue. “I love playing with him. He’s someone that you want by your side every game.

“Just the way he sets the standards on the field and around the club. He’s someone I’m really looking forward to learning off and continue to build that partnership throughout the year.”

Rovers don’t have too long to recover from Saturday’s gruelling contest against Leigh, with Wigan heading to Craven Park on Thursday for the first of a double header between the two sides.

The first meeting is an intriguing Super League clash with both sides pushing to climb the table. The second game will be played at Wembley as Wigan and KR face off in the Challenge Cup final.

“Wigan’s always a tough team,” Amone added, looking ahead to the challenge in front of the Robins. “It’s going to be similar to Leigh, a hard, gritty game and hopefully we get on top.
