Out of the Fire Theatre, Bridlington’s newest theatrical group, is busy with rehearsals for its first ever full-length play, the much anticipated Dracula: Wild & Wicked in Whitby.
The play is described as a “raucous, madcap, laugh-out-loud twist on this classic” and Out of the Fire Theatre says: “This is not a scary Dracula – we do pay homage to the classic tale set not far away in Whitby but ours is a comedy with bite.”
The thespians are based at St. Peter’s Hall, in Victoria Road, and members meet every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm, immersing themselves in all aspects of drama, theatre and putting on productions. Members span all ages and experience, from absolute beginners to those more familiar with being on stage.
The group launched in October 2024 with The Beer, The Fear and The Spirits, for Halloween. Since then they have performed Sassy Sirens and Flighty Fellas – a series of comedy playlets – and A Christmas Carol: 3 Ways, which saw the group present a modern-day Christmas Carol, a One Word Christmas Carol and a traditional version of the story.
The group launched this year’s busy programme in March with The Stage Supper Series, bringing a new concept to Bridlington’s drama scene. Audience members enjoyed a delicious pie, a drink, and a live performance of a vintage 1940s radio play: Dick Tracy and The Big Top Murders.
Tickets for this event sold out within 72 hours but for those who missed out, the group will be reviving their performance as part of the Old Town Vintage Day, on June 28. The next Stage Supper will be on Friday, October 30.
Of Dracula: Wild & Wicked in Whitby, the group said: “Get ready for a fast-paced story of vampire hunting, love, family and egg sandwiches…with hobby horses, masks, puppets, water sprays, a couple of magic tricks and a razor scooter! With a steam punk costume theme and a music track which stretches from Vivaldi to rock there really is something for everyone.”
The production will be running at St Peter’s Hall from Thursday to Saturday, May 28 to 30. Tickets are £8.50 from Planetwise, Prospect Street, Bridlington or from www.ticketsource.co.uk and to find out more, follow Out of the Fire Theatre on Facebook or email outofthefiretheatre@gmail.com
