Seru played two seasons at Hull FC.

Former Hull FC winger Fili Seru sadly passed away last week after suffering with Motor Neurone Disease. He was 56-years-old.

A dual Fijian international in both rugby league and rugby union, Seru spent two seasons at the Black and Whites, joining the club after their 1997 Division One title triumph and promotion to Super League.

Debuting in 1998, Seru made 43 appearances for Hull across his two years in East Yorkshire. He began his career as a rugby union player and represented Fiji in the 1991 Rugby World Cup, as well as being part of one of Fiji’s greatest ever Sevens side, claiming Hong Kong Sevens honours in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

Making the switch to rugby league in the mid-90s, Seru first played for South Queensland Crushers in the ARL before pulling on a Fiji jersey once more later that season in the 1995 Rugby League World Cup.

The Fijian then moved to Illawarra Steelers for the 1996 and 1997 seasons before joining Hull ahead of 1998. He scored on his debut away at Whitehaven in the Challenge Cup and managed a total of 15 tries in his two years at the club.
